XX411 History - Journey South

Travelled South on Sir Geriant.

At Ascension Island the aircraft were fitted with Squadron designed GPMG mounts and SNEB rocket fittings. The photo above shows the weapons fit as used on D-Day.

This Gazelle was ready to be shipped to the Falklands but was not required. It does however show the equipment fit:- IR Shield to deflect engine exhaust, stores boom with Matra 68mm SNEB rocket pod, missile "candle" aiming post and floation packs attached to the landing skids. The floation packs however were removed from the Gazelles at Ascension Island after several inflated accidentally.
