Gomba Stonefield P5000 Arrives

Restoration Starts

AeroVenture Receives Gomba Stonefield P5000 Airport/Airfield Fire Truck

Gomba Stonefield P5000 in store

Kev Lewis, the driving force (no pun intended) behind the museum's vehicle collection has just acquired a new and rare restoration project, a Gomba Stonefield P5000 Airport Fire Truck. Kev takes up the story:-

The Tale begins with our TACR1 nearly finished we had problems getting spares for its pump, so we have had a bronze bearing made, the worry is that it may not return to service. So looking for another unit and a MK10 though nice would be too big for our site. So when Bernard Barker, Buckton, was selling this wagon, we acquired it, I bought it unseen, but he's a good chap and I was not disappointed.

Unfortunately she was vandalized, so we put her in storage with Jim at Melbourne Autos while a restoration plan was worked out. So on 17 April she was delivered to Aeroventure by Dave Knowlson with the help of J.Atkinson of Strensall. A big thank you chaps - your help greatly appreciated.

The photos include her in the field and arriving, as you can see she needs a new windscreen, a good scrub so when done some more photos to come, so keep tuned into our website.

We know she served in the Channel Isles on Guernsey and Alderney [last reg AY552] if you have any info or pictures in service they would be very welcome as we build up her history.

Arrival at Aeroventure

10/05/08 Restoration Starts

We towed the truck round to it's new place with our little dockyard truck, due to brakes sticking and 2nd driver not being able to see was fun. As you can see in need of a wash, and now with new windscreen made and fitted by Scott and Karl from RACs specialist team. and a good scrub down she looks a lot better.

So now we start on the long road of restoration

The truck is 6 x 4 wheel drive the rear axle is a floating axle just to assist with the weight as she carries 4 crew, 90 litres of foam and 1350 litres of water for fire fighting.

Fires can be tackled via outlets front and rear plus the cannon on the cab roof. Words and photos Kev Lewis
