08/03/08 Aeroventure Cleanup Day

As part of our push to be ready for the summer season, Aeroventure held its annual cleanup day on the 8th March with many members turning out to clean the main hangar and polish up the exhibits.

A big thanks and well-done to everyone who helped out. Thanks to Naylan for these photos.

08/03/08 Charlie Brown gives Merlins Over Malta Talk

Well known Warbird pilot Charlie Brown give his account of the planning and execution of the operation to fly a Hurricane and Spitfire to Malta to display over Grand Harbour in Sept 2005, the first time that these two types had been seen over the Island since 1952.

As pilot of the Spitfire during this journey, Charlie described the whole trip and the ecstatic welcome they were met with on Malta.

Thanks to Mike Tozer for use of these wonderful photos capturing the aircraft in flight.

09/02/08 Aeroventure Gets Surprise visit to our museum by two civilian helicopters

With 3/4 hours notice we were delighted to have land Alouette HA-PPC (built in Oct 1960 and accepted by the British Army in Nov 1960) along with Gazelle HA-LFH in its distinctive yellow colour scheme. This being one of the first trips out in the UK for the Gazelle as it only arrived in this country yesterday.

It was of interest to members of the Museum to compare the differences between this pure civilian Gazelle and our own Military version
XX411 with the most obvious things being the black padded insulation throughout the cockpit and the luggage door below the fuel tank area.

Shop manager Maureen had taken the pre-arrival phone call in the shop and was delighted to see her first "real" helicopter which was marshalled in under the watchful eye of Nigel Porembski in his Hi Viz jacket with emergency crew Kev, Paul, Callum and standing by with the fire extinguisher trolley.

Following their landing in the beautiful spring sunshine, the pilots and crew were given a full guided tour of the Museum by members of the Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation group.

The aircraft took to the air approx 1 1/2 hours later to the delight of the passing Doncaster Rovers supporters.
